Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name, case number, or other query entered in a site search function is sent to the third-party provider operating that function. The provider processes the entry under its own practices. Dickinson County Court Docket does not maintain a visitor-side log of the individual search terms entered into that tool.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If a visitor sends an email, the message and its contact details may be retained to respond or manage the request. They are not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal operation of a web page can collect technical information about a visit, including:
- The IP address associated with the connecting device
- Browser type, browser version, device type, and operating system
- Pages viewed and the time spent on a page
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- Dates and times associated with page requests
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files that can help a site recognize browser activity and measure aggregate use. Analytics services may summarize visits, traffic paths, and page performance. Browser settings can limit or block cookies, although features that depend on them may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
Visitor and technical information may be used to operate and improve the service.
- Maintain page availability and performance
- Send a submitted query to the selected partner tool
- Evaluate aggregate use of site content
- Identify and address technical problems
- Deliver advertising that may be relevant to a visitor
No Court-Record Data on File
Dickinson County Court Docket does not host, compile, maintain, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case records. It provides general directions to the court that keeps a particular case history. Under MCR 8.119, Michigan trial-court case histories and records have their own access rules. MCR 1.109(D)(9) separately protects specified personal identifiers in filings. Neither rule turns site visitor information into a court record or a consumer report.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside providers operate search boxes that appear on the site. Information entered into one of those tools is governed by the provider’s privacy policy, retention policy, and sharing practices. Dickinson County Court Docket does not control those practices, so a visitor should review the provider’s terms before submitting an entry.
Links to Other Websites
Links can take a visitor to court, clerk, statewide case-search, legal-aid, or third-party service pages. After leaving Dickinson County Court Docket, the destination’s privacy policy controls the visit. Read that policy before providing personal information to the destination.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to measure activity across websites or select advertisements. That activity is governed by the partner’s practices, not by this policy.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Depending on the service used and the legal circumstances, information can be available to:
- The partner that processes a submitted search query
- Analytics services used to measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that place advertisements on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to a valid legal requirement
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect information collected by the service. No internet-connected system can promise complete security, so the policy does not guarantee that a breach, interruption, or unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If the organization learns that such information was provided, it will take steps to delete it.
Your Data Rights
Visitors may request access to personal information held by the organization, ask for correction of inaccurate information, request deletion, or ask about certain processing choices. Michigan court-record access is a separate subject: MCL 15.235 sets the written Freedom of Information Act process for a public body’s administrative records, while a court-file request goes to the originating court under MCR 8.119. Neither process bypasses a court-record restriction.
- Request a copy of personal information held about you
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request deletion of personal information where appropriate
- Ask about options to limit certain data processing
Updates to This Policy
The policy may be revised when practices or applicable requirements change. A revised version will be posted here with an updated effective date.
